The weird dream rule where stairs in my childhood home led nowhere

I had this dream last night where I was back in my old house in Ohio, and the stairs going to the basement just ended at a brick wall halfway down. In the dream it made perfect sense that you'd just turn around and go back up, like that was the whole point of having stairs. It got me thinking about how many dreams I've had where the layout of that house is totally different but my brain just accepts it. Has anyone else had their childhood home turn into a maze or have impossible rooms in their dreams?

Does your brain even try to make the impossible rooms feel cozy or is it just straight weird?

Wait, are you telling me some people actually try to make those rooms cozy? Ngl, my brain just goes straight to "what is even happening here" mode. Like, I'll be walking through some endless staircase or a room where the ceiling is also the floor, and there's no way I'm thinking about throw pillows. Honestly, the whole point is that it's impossible, so why would you wanna make it feel warm and inviting? That just makes it even more unsettling to me. Tbh, I'd rather have the creepy, weird vibes than try to pretend I'm in some cute little cabin in the woods while reality is breaking.

Huh, has anyone else's brain ever tried to turn one of those rooms into a memory instead of just a vibe? Like, I had a dream once about a hallway that kept looping back on itself, and instead of being confused, my brain painted it with that specific yellow light from my grandma's kitchen. Suddenly it felt familiar, almost safe, even though the walls were bending at impossible angles. I think our brains sometimes try to file the impossible under "things we've seen before" as a survival trick, like it's less scary if it reminds you of a place you once felt okay. So yeah, sometimes mine does lean cozy, but only if the impossible room somehow triggers a specific memory or feeling from real life. Makes it way more unsettling when the cozy feeling breaks though, like when you realize you're homesick for a place that doesn't exist.
