Pro tip: I used to freehand all my section views and they were always a bit off

Started using the 'align' tool in my software about six months ago after a coworker showed me, and now my drawings are way cleaner. Has anyone found a better method for keeping those views straight?

Honestly, who even looks that close at section views. As long as the info is clear, a tiny angle won't kill anyone. Seems like making perfect lines is more about personal pride than actual function. The align tool is fine, but spending extra time on it is a bit much.

I get what you're saying about the info being clear, but those small angles can actually cause real problems. If a section view is even a little off, it can make measurements look wrong when someone tries to scale off the drawing. It's not just about pride, it's about avoiding confusion in the shop or on site. The align tool takes two seconds to use and it prevents those mistakes, so why not do it right?

Exactly THIS. It's not about being picky, it's about REAL consequences. I've seen a shop guy try to scale a section view that was like 2 degrees off and it threw off a whole layout for a column base plate. Suddenly the bolts didn't line up and the contractor was calling the engineer, and the engineer was blaming the drafter. All because someone didn't hit that align button. That tool is literally ONE CLICK and it saves everyone a headache. Plus it makes the drawing look way cleaner which matters when you have to present it to a client who doesn't know technical stuff but can see something looks crooked. People who skip it are just creating problems for no reason.

Wait, so David, you're saying you'd let a drawing go out with a wrong measurement just because checking it is "extra time"? That's wild to me. Have you ever had a fabricator call you because their cut list was wrong from a scaled drawing? I have, and it's a huge waste of everyone's time to fix.
