Vent: That "smart" thermostat I installed has been nothing but trouble since day one
I swapped out my old basic Honeywell for one of those Nest style ones last fall because everyone online swore it would save money. Well it's been 8 months now and this thing fights me every time the weather changes. Last week it was 75 degrees out and it kicked the AC on because it misread the temp from the hallway. I had to manually override it 4 times that day. The old one just worked. You set it and it did its job. Now I'm spending my weekends reading error codes on this screen. Has anyone else had a "smart" upgrade turn into a headache?

Tbh I read some tech blog that said those things break way more often than they save you money.

emma_flores said "you just hit override and move on" but man it is NOT that simple when this thing goes rogue on you constantly. My buddy got the same brand you're talking about and it took over a month just to get support to admit the sensor was defective. The old Honeywell I had never needed a single override in 5 years, now I'm fighting this thing weekly. Last month it randomly set itself to 85 degrees overnight and I woke up sweating, had to dig out the manual at 2am just to reset it. Honestly feels like these companies push out half-baked software and call it an upgrade.

Oh come on, it can't be that bad. Yeah it's annoying when it kicks the AC on a cool day but you just hit override and move on. I've had my smart thermostat for like a year and maybe it fumbles once every few months. Sure sometimes I gotta futz with the app to adjust the schedule but it's not like I'm debugging code out here. Sounds like you might just have a dud unit or it's installed in a bad spot. My buddy had a similar issue til he moved the sensor away from the kitchen vent now it's fine.
