Spent 3 hours trying to fix a toilet that just needed the chain adjusted

I thought my toilet was running nonstop because of a bad flapper, so I replaced it. Turns out the chain was just 1 link too long and getting caught. Has anyone else spent way too long on a simple fix?

Man, that's always how it goes, isn't it? My buddy once spent two hours tearing apart his lawnmower because it wouldn't start, and it just needed the gas cap loosened so air could get in. You get all ready for a big project and it ends up being a two second thing you could've done with your eyes closed.

Oh man, that is the most frustrating thing ever. I remember my husband and I spent a whole afternoon once trying to figure out a weird noise in our car. Looked up all these complicated youtube videos about alternators and belts. Ended up being a loose plastic soda bottle cap rattling around in the cup holder. Three hours for that. Oh man, that is way too relatable. I once spent a good two hours on a Saturday convinced my washing machine was making a dying whale noise, ready to call a repair guy and everything. Turns out one of my kid's little plastic dinosaur had gotten wedged in the drum. I felt like such a genius, but also a total idiot.
