Figured out why my bathroom fan was so loud after 3 months of annoyance
I spent way too long trying to fix this noisy bathroom fan in my house. At first I thought it was just a cheap motor, but after putting up with the racket for like 3 months, I finally pulled the whole unit down. Turns out the duct was completely crushed where it went through the roof, so the fan was fighting against zero airflow. I could have fixed this in 20 minutes if I'd just checked the duct first instead of assuming the fan itself was bad. Ended up cutting out the crushed section and patching in a new piece of rigid duct, cost me maybe $8 and half an hour. The fan is whisper quiet now and I feel dumb for not checking sooner. Has anyone else run into a simple fix that took them way too long to figure out?

Crushed duct, huh. That's exactly what happened with my dryer vent last year. Took me six months of lint buildup and long drying times before I crawled under the house and found where a raccoon had flattened the tube. Felt real stupid standing there with a $3 coupling from the hardware store.
