Bought those expensive smart light switches and I'm now convinced they're more trouble than they're worth

I saw all the hype about smart switches making life easier. Spent like 300 dollars on a set for my living room and kitchen last month. The app keeps disconnecting, the voice control lags by 3 seconds, and my wife nearly tripped over a lamp because the switch didn't respond. Honestly, I just wanted to dim the lights without getting up. Now I'm thinking about swapping them back for old-school dimmers. Anyone else deal with smart home gear that just makes everything worse?

Blame the wife almost tripping on a whole different thing... three seconds is annoying but not that bad. I'd leave the smart switches in and just use the app for dimming from the couch honestly. People act like a minor lag is a tragedy when old dimmers literally flicker and buzz half the time.

Fought the lag for weeks then just switched to app control like you said @the_taylor.
