Why does nobody talk about how bad coworking spaces are for deep work?

I've been bouncing around coworking spaces in Thailand for the last 3 months. Every single one has the same problem - constant noise from people taking Zoom calls right next to you. I spent $350 on a monthly pass at a place in Chiang Mai that promised 'quiet zones' and they were totally ignored. The staff even said they can't enforce it. How do you guys actually get focused work done when you're not in a private office? Am I missing some secret spot?

Thailand's coworking scene is more social than focused, that's the issue.

Oh man, I had this exact problem in Bali last year. I ended up buying noise-canceling headphones that cost way too much, only to realize I couldn't wear them for more than an hour without my ears sweating. It's like coworking spaces are designed for people who want to look productive rather than actually be productive.

Absolutely agree with you on that. I tried a coworking spot in Chiang Mai once and the "pod" seating was so cramped I could hear three Zoom calls at once, no headphones could save me. @the_jennifer you totally nailed it about Thailand's social vibe, it feels more like a cafe where people are networking than getting actual work done.
