TIL at a tire shop about landing pages

I was waiting for my oil change at a shop in Tulsa and the guy next to me was on his phone complaining about his ad clicks. He showed me his landing page and it was just his home page with no real call to action. Made me realize I've been sending people to the wrong place for months. Anybody else had to totally rework their funnel after a basic mistake like that?

Wait, what was on his home page that made it so bad? Like was it just a picture of the tire shop with a phone number, or did it have a bunch of distracting links and no clear next step for someone who clicked an ad? I'm trying to picture what a total waste of money that must have been, sending people to a generic page instead of a targeted offer.

Buddy of mine runs a small landscaping company. He paid some kid to set up a Google ad and it just sent people to his main site. That homepage had a big picture of a lawnmower, his logo, and like 15 different links to stuff like "about us" and "our history." No special deal. No "click here for 10% off mowing." He blew through his whole ad budget in two days. Got one phone call from a guy asking if they did tree removal.
