Everyone says you need a huge ad budget to start, but I got a local bakery their first 10 online orders for under $50.

Under $50" reminds me of my buddy's failed lawn mowing flyers.

That's a solid result for a local service. The budget thing gets overblown sometimes. It's more about targeting the right people than just spending a lot. @martinez.hayden, flyers can work but they're a totally different game than online ads. You can aim those ads so specifically now, like just to people in one neighborhood who like baking. Fifty bucks spent that way goes a lot further than printing and handing out paper everywhere.

Henry's right about the targeting. My cousin runs a small dog walking service and spent maybe thirty bucks on Facebook ads last month. She only showed them to people within three miles who had liked pages for local pet stores. Got two new regular clients from it. That kind of money on flyers would have just gotten her a stack of paper that mostly ends up in the trash.
