My sister told me my art was 'too clean' and it's been bugging me

We were looking at my latest piece, a fantasy landscape I made in Procreate. She said, 'It's pretty, but it feels like a stock photo, nothing's out of place.' I realized I spend so much time on perfect linework and layers that I never let anything feel messy or alive. Has anyone else gotten this kind of feedback, and how did you start adding more 'imperfect' energy to your digital pieces?

Yeah, I got that same comment on my vector art. What helped was forcing myself to use a basic brush and just sketch over the finished piece, like adding some rough texture lines on a new layer. I'd turn the opacity down so it wasn't too much, but it broke up those perfect edges.

My vector art looked like it was made by a robot until I tried that trick.

So you just draw over the clean lines with a messy brush?
