My 600 dollar tablet pen went dead after 13 months

Bought a fancy pen tablet for my digital art showcases back in March, paid 600 bucks for the whole kit. At month 13 the pen just stopped charging, no drops or anything, and support said the warranty only covered 12 months. I lost half my weekend redoing a client piece with my mouse cause I couldn't wait for a replacement. Anyone else had a high end tablet die right after the warranty window, and what did you switch to?

Friend of mine had the same thing happen with a mid-range Wacom. It died at month 14 and they were stuck doing freelance work with a mouse for a week. They ended up buying a refurbished older model for like half the price, and it's been going strong for two years now. That first tablet was from a newer line, and they said the build quality just felt cheaper in hindsight.
