Visited a salvage yard in Spokane and saw a trick for pulling injectors
I was looking for a turbo core last week at a big yard off I-90. One of the older guys there had a 6.0 Powerstroke block on a stand and was using a slide hammer with a homemade adapter made from an old socket and a bolt. He welded a nut to the side of the socket to give the hammer a solid hook point. Said he's pulled over a hundred injectors with that same tool and never cracked a rocker box. Has anyone else seen a homemade tool setup that worked better than the store-bought version?

That homemade socket adapter sounds SOLID. I've used a similar trick with a heavy duty eye bolt and some thick washers when my loaner tool broke. Sometimes the simple fix is the one that just WORKS.

How many times has the "right" tool failed compared to a janky backup? @avery_jackson gets it, because that eye bolt fix probably outlasted the original part. Honestly, the best tools are the ones that don't break your wallet when they break.

But what about when the janky fix fails?
