Just lost a full day's pay chasing a ghost code on a 6.7 Powerstroke
Had a P0087 low fuel rail pressure code on a 2015 F-250. Customer said it was intermittent, so I jumped straight to the high pressure pump. Spent 8 hours swapping it out, only to find the real problem was a tiny crack in the plastic fuel line connector on the CP4 pump inlet, spraying a fine mist you could barely see. Cost me about $300 in lost time because I didn't pressure test the low side first. Anyone else get burned by assuming the worst with these codes?

Used to always blame the high pressure pump first on those codes. Had the same thing happen on a Duramax last year, tiny leak on a suction line fitting. Now I hook up the low side gauge before I even grab a wrench. That extra five minutes saves a whole day of wasted work. Makes you feel stupid but it's the only way to be sure.

Sounds smart but sometimes you just know it's the pump. Seen it too many times where all that checking just delays the fix. Could be overthinking a simple problem.

Wait, you found a leak on the suction side of a Duramax? That’s wild.
