I saw the before and after of switching to a local bookkeeper in Hamtramck and it blew me away

Last year I was using one of those online bookkeeping services for my shop on Michigan Ave. It was fine at first, but after about 6 months my numbers started looking weird. I figured it was just me messing up sales entries. Then I switched to a bookkeeper who lives three blocks from my store. Within 2 weeks she caught a $400 mistake in my inventory that the online service had missed for months. She also showed me a local tax credit I qualified for that saved me $1,200 this year. The difference was night and day compared to that faceless company. The online service never once asked about my actual business or what I was seeing day to day. Has anyone else had better luck with a local person over a big app?

My buddy runs a garage in Detroit and had the same online service issue with inventory miscounts. Switching to a local person who actually walks through his shop fixed it in a week.

I mean, I figured every garage just runs on some automated cloud system that counts bolts from space or something. I had no idea boots-on-the-ground human eyeballs were still an option in 2024. Nah, I gotta push back on this one. That single local guy walking through the shop is basically a step backward if you ask me. One tired human can miss a bolt bin or a leaking part because they're hungover or just having a bad Tuesday. An automated system might screw up a count sometimes but at least it's consistent and doesn't call in sick. Plus, that one person's eyeballs can't cover every corner at once, especially in a busy shop with parts on every shelf. I'd rather trust a cloud system that gives me real-time data across my whole inventory than rely on some guy's possibly bad memory or rushed walkthrough. Simpler isn't always better when you're scaling up, you know?
