Spent 45 minutes hunting for my tape measure under piles of winter coats

I wanted to mark where to hang a shelf and knew my tape measure was somewhere in the hall closet. But I had stuffed three bags of out-of-season jackets, scarves, and random mail on top of it. After digging through all that mess for 45 minutes, I finally found it wedged behind a boot. Has anyone else had this happen where one small item gets buried and it takes forever to find?

Hang on, 45 minutes seems a little long for a closet hunt. I've been buried in coat piles before and usually find my tape measure in like 10 minutes tops. Maybe you were also looking for that mystery boot you mentioned? But yeah, I feel your pain - I've spent way too long digging through the same closet for my leveler, only to find it in the junk drawer where I never put it.

Oh man, is that junk drawer like a black hole for tools or what? I once spent a full hour hunting for my hammer only to find it in a kitchen cabinet behind the cereal boxes. No idea how it got there, maybe I was multitasking and just put it down while grabbing breakfast. It's always the weirdest spots, never where you actually remember leaving it.

Only to find it in the junk drawer where I never put it" - now that's the real kicker, isn't it? I swear our tools have legs and a secret meeting spot they all go to.
