Finally dealt with my junk drawer after it jammed shut with a loose battery
I was standing in my kitchen in Portland last Tuesday trying to get the drawer open to grab a screwdriver and the whole thing seized up because of a corroded AA battery that had leaked, so I dumped everything on the counter, threw out the old receipts and dead pens, and now I keep just six things in there - has anyone else hit that point where a drawer just stops working?

Read somewhere that baking soda neutralizes battery acid spills.

Hell yeah, you're right. Baking soda does neutralize battery acid since it's a base and all. But like piper said, you're just gonna have a foamy mess on your hands. I've done it before and it works fine for small drips, but for a real spill you need something to soak it up too. Just don't use vinegar or you'll make a science experiment out of your garage floor.

Oh come on, @stellaperry, you're really gonna trust random internet advice without testing it first? I mean yeah, baking soda does neutralize acid because it's a base, but unless you're planning to lick the battery spill afterward, what's the point? It's not like you're gonna make a science fair volcano out of a car battery. Plus, if you pour baking soda on a big spill, you're just gonna end up with a fizzy mess that's still sitting on your garage floor. Just use a ton of water and some kitty litter like normal people do. But hey, you do you, Stella - just keep the vinegar away from it unless you want a real show.
