The mail carrier taught me more about package theft than any camera did

After three Amazon deliveries vanished from my porch in Austin last spring, I bought a $120 security camera and angled it at the walkway. It caught shadows and a neighbor's cat, but nothing useful. Last Tuesday the regular mail carrier happened to mention she sees thieves follow the brown trucks and grab boxes within minutes, so the real fix is requiring a signature or using a locker. I switched to pickup points for anything over $50 and haven't lost a single package in two months. Why do we all assume more surveillance solves this instead of just changing how we receive stuff?

My buddy in Phoenix had the exact same problem, so he bought a fake camera for like 15 bucks and stuck it up. He thought that would scare people off, but his packages kept disappearing anyway. Then his mail carrier told him the same thing about the brown truck crews, so he started having everything sent to a locker at the gas station down the road. He said it's a pain sometimes to drive over there, but he hasn't lost a thing in almost a year now. The camera never did a damn thing for him either, so I think you're onto something about just changing the delivery method.
