Found out my local coffee shop's $5 latte has more sugar than a candy bar
I checked the nutrition info they posted online out of curiosity, and a 16 oz caramel latte has 52 grams of sugar... that's more than a Snickers. How do you guys justify spending $5 on something that's basically dessert?

Yeah the sugar content in those fancy coffee drinks is wild. I stopped getting caramel lattes when I saw 50+ grams listed online too. It kind of ruined the whole "treat yourself" vibe when I realized I was basically drinking a melted candy bar. I still get an iced coffee with a splash of milk now, but I had to really change my mindset about what I was ordering.

Yeah the "melted candy bar" thing hits hard. What gets me is nobody talks about how those giant 50g sugar drinks are basically what a full energy bar has but in liquid form. @olivia_moore you're right on track with the splash of milk thing, that's the way to go.

Right, but I gotta push back a little here. A 50g sugar drink isn't the same as a candy bar because the drink has zero fiber or protein to slow down the sugar spike. You're just getting a straight sugar bomb straight into your system with nothing to balance it out. At least with a real energy bar you might get some nuts or oats that help your body process it slower. The splash of milk trick is fine but I'd rather just skip the sugary drinks entirely and go for a small black coffee if I really need a boost. What's the point of paying for something that's basically just liquid sugar with a side of caffeine?
