Bought into a fancy meal prep service for 3 months, turned out to be a waste of $450

I signed up for a local organic meal kit delivery because I wanted to save time cooking after work. But after three months, I realized I was throwing away half the produce every week and the portions were tiny for the price. Has anyone else tried these services and found them actually worth the money?

Tried it once, swapping in my own cheaper greens saved me some cash.

Wait, did you just swap in any old greens or did you find some that actually held up well to the prep? I've been experimenting with mixing in some bulk spinach from the local market (not the fancy bagged stuff) and it works great for soups and stir-frys. @victor779, I bet you could save even more by buying whole heads of cabbage or kale instead of pre-chopped mixes. I started doing that last month and my wallet thanked me, plus the leaves last way longer in the fridge.

That $450 could have bought you a whole lot of grocery store basics. I tried a meal kit service for a month and felt the same way about the portions being too small and the produce going bad too fast. Instead of swapping in cheaper greens, I just stopped using the service and started meal prepping on Sundays with a big batch of rice, beans, and whatever veggies are on sale. You can make a week of lunches for like $20 that way, and nothing goes to waste. The convenience of those kits is nice but it's way overpriced for what you actually get.
