The morning my coffee shop order got me rethinking my whole career

I was at Starbucks last Tuesday waiting for my usual iced vanilla latte when the barista said 'you look tired, you should try our new cold brew.' It hit me that I spend 40 hours a week in a job I hate just to afford small treats like this. Meanwhile my guitar sits untouched at home because I'm too drained to practice. Has anyone else had a random stranger's comment make them question their day job?

The barista at my local coffee shop once told me my order was "very complicated" and I should just pick a simpler drink. That comment stuck with me for days and I started wondering why I need to make everything in my life SO complicated. I was doing all this extra stuff at work that nobody asked for, filling my weekends with obligations I hated. It's funny how a five second comment from a stranger can make you take a HARD look at your whole life.

Oh totally been there! I had a cashier at Target once say "wow you really thought this through huh" when I was buying like 15 different things for one dinner party. I felt so ridiculous I almost put everything back. It made me realize I was trying to impress people who didn't even care about the fancy appetizers and themed napkins. I was just adding stress to my life for no reason. Now I keep it simple too and honestly it feels way better.
