Hot take: the "5 second rule" is ruining actual food safety
I work in a kitchen in Chicago and I see people all the time dropping raw chicken on the floor then picking it up saying "5 second rule" like that means anything. Bacteria transfer is instant the second food touches a dirty surface, not after some timer. I actually tested this with a small piece of bread and a petri dish last month and the germs showed up immediately. Why do we keep pretending a quick pickup makes things clean?

I dropped a grape in my own kitchen last week and watched bacteria cover it in seconds under a cheap microscope.

Read that 5 second rule is more like wishful thinking.

Did your friend happen to check the floor before they dropped it?
