A cashier at the grocery store told me I looked tired and it actually helped

Ran into this older lady checking me out at the Publix near my house about 2 weeks ago. She just looked at me and said 'honey, you look like you been carrying the whole world on your shoulders.' Normally I'd get annoyed but she said it so matter of fact like. I was honestly exhausted from juggling a crew that had two guys call out and a deadline breathing down my neck. She didn't try to sell me anything or give advice, just bagged my stuff and said 'go home and sit down for 10 minutes before you do anything else.' Weirdest thing is I actually did it. Sat in my truck for 10 minutes with the AC on and it didn't fix everything but it made me realize I never just stop. Anyone else ever get a random comment from a stranger that actually hit different?

Oh man, the truck break thing is KEY. I started doing something similar but before I even get out of my car. I park, turn the engine off, and just sit there for five full minutes with my hands on the wheel. No phone, no radio, just staring at the garage door. It sounds dumb but it lets my brain catch up to my body. Then I go inside and I'm actually present instead of still running through my work to-do list. That Publix lady basically gave you permission to hit pause, and sometimes that's all it takes. I tried it with my morning coffee too, just standing on the porch for five minutes before the chaos starts, and it changes the whole tone of my day.

That Publix lady sounds like a secret life coach in disguise. I swear, sometimes the best advice comes from someone who doesn't even know they're giving it. The other day a woman at the gas station told me my tire looked low and I nearly cried because nobody has looked at my car in months. Now I'm half-tempted to find a random stranger and tell them they look like they need a nap just to see if it starts a trend. Your 10-minute truck break might be the most productive thing you did all week honestly.

Oh man @sage308, that tire thing hits different for real. It's wild how a random stranger noticing something real can just cut through all the noise. But actually, I think the secret life coach thing is off a little. She wasn't trying to coach anybody, she was just being real and honest. That's what made it work for me.

Simple things like that work, I started taking five minutes to drink my coffee before heading inside after my shift.
