Warning: my old boss in Phoenix said my corner work looked like 'a raccoon did it with a rake' and honestly he was right
I started taping off a 2 foot test square before every job and checking it in direct sun instead of shade, which sounds dumb but it cut my redo calls from about 8 a month down to 1, so what's the weirdest insult that actually made you better at something?

a raccoon did it with a rake" is brutal but honestly the funniest way anyone could describe bad corner work. The fact that you just agreed with him instead of getting mad says a lot though. And the direct sun vs shade thing is not dumb at all, that's a real move since shade hides every run and bubble until the sun hits it later. Cutting redo calls from 8 a month to 1 off a 2 foot test square is the kind of thing they should teach on day one. My worst one was a guy who told me my caulk lines looked like I did them with my eyes closed, and yeah, I slowed way down after that.
