The $11 calendar app that beat my $500 paper planner system

I spent years buying nice paper planners and using sticky notes to organize my day. Last month I tried a simple calendar app on my phone because a coworker in Portland kept raving about it. Turns out the app reminds me 30 minutes before each appointment, so I stopped missing things like dog groomer visits and parent-teacher meetings. The paper planner looked nice on my desk but it never actually told me when to leave or what to bring. Has anyone else found that the cheap digital option beats the fancy physical one for real daily decisions?
