Rant: buying groceries every 2 days vs. one big Sunday run
I used to hit Kroger 4 times a week and drop $60 each trip, now I do one $180 run on Sunday with a written list and I've saved $140 a month since January, but the produce thing still bugs me, does anyone else's lettuce go bad by Wednesday no matter what they do?
Lettuce is basically a countdown timer that starts the second you walk out of the store. I've tried the paper towel trick, the damp cloth thing, even shoved it in a mason jar like some sad science project, and by Wednesday it's still that slimy brown mush you have to peel apart like a horror movie. Kale holds up way better if you want greens that don't betray you by midweek, and cabbage just sits there forever like it's waiting for something. My Sunday haul works great for everything except the stuff that's basically already dying on the shelf, so now I do one mid-week stop for produce only and keep the big run for cans and meat. Saves the money without the sad salad funeral on Thursday.
