My contractor's advice on the cheap tile saved me $900 in Denver
Last spring I hired a guy named Ray to redo my bathroom in Denver. He told me to skip the expensive porcelain and go with basic ceramic from a local big box store. I thought he just wanted an easier install, but he explained the subfloor in my 1980s house had too much flex for heavy tile anyway. Three months in, a pipe under the sink leaked and soaked the floor for two days before I noticed. The ceramic tiles stayed put, just a few cracked grout lines, and replacement was like $40 for a box. If I had listened to the fancy tile store guy, I'd be out over a thousand bucks and pulling up broken slabs right now. Has anyone else gotten pushback from a contractor that actually saved your wallet in the long run?

Did Ray mention anything about checking that subfloor flex before you picked the tile, or was that info he only shared after you already asked about the cheap option?
