I thought my friend was being paranoid about his phone's location settings

He showed me how a photo he took at a park in Phoenix last month had the exact coordinates in its file info. I checked my own photos from a trip and found the same data, just sitting there for anyone to see. Now I turn off location services for my camera app unless I really need it. How many of you actually check what info your apps are sharing?

That metadata can also show up if you forward a photo in a text. Sent a pic to a group chat once and my friend pointed out my street name was in the details.

Yikes, that's a scary thought... makes me wonder how many times I've done the same thing without knowing. Your story about the group chat, @gracec16, is a perfect example of how easy it is to slip up. I just checked a random photo from my camera roll and sure enough, the location data was right there in the details. Feels like you need a tech degree just to safely share a picture of your lunch these days. Honestly makes me want to just go back to using a disposable camera sometimes.
