My credit score jumped 47 points in one month after I stopped doing this one thing

I always thought paying off my balances in full each month was the gold standard. Then I read on the MyFICO forums that having a statement balance of zero can actually hurt you. Turns out lenders want to see you use credit, not just have it. Last month I let a small $40 charge post to my card before paying it off, and my score went from 712 to 759. Has anyone else seen a weird surge just from changing when you pay, or was this just a fluke for me?

Wait, is that actually a thing? Because I've been doing the same thing, paying it all off every month, and now I'm wondering if I've been screwing myself over this whole time.
