Smooth move on job site last Thursday saved me 20 minutes

I was setting up a 50-ton lattice boom in tight quarters near a drainage ditch and trying to keep the tag lines from getting tangled up in the mud. If you clip them to the back of your seat before you start the lift, they stay off the ground and out of the muck. Anyone else got a trick for keeping tag lines clean on wet sites?

Wrap a loop of duct tape sticky side out around the base of the tag line near the hook. Catches most of the mud before it climbs up the line.

That's a solid trick with the seat clips. I've been running cranes for over twenty years and I can tell you that what nobody mentions is how much the tag line material itself matters. The standard braided poly lines absorb water like a sponge and get heavy and nasty fast. Switching to a waxed or coated line makes a world of difference on wet jobs. The mud and water just bead off and wipe clean with a rag. Saves you more than just time, it saves your hands and your gloves from getting soaked through.

You hit it right on the head @oscarc12. I swapped to a waxed line about three years ago and it's a game changer on rainy days. The mud practically slides off and I don't have to wring out the line every time I reel it in. My hands stay way warmer too since the gloves aren't soaking wet by lunchtime.
