My first boss told me to never use box dye on a client, and I learned the hard way why.

This was back in 2012 when I was fresh out of school and working at a small salon in Dayton. A friend begged me to help cover her grays with a drugstore color she'd bought, and I figured it was a simple favor. The color turned out patchy and brassy, and it took me two corrective appointments to fix the mess. She was upset, I lost money on the time, and my boss just shook her head. That one mistake taught me more about color integrity than any class did. What's the worst 'shortcut' advice you've ever seen a new stylist try to take?

Saw a girl try to cut wet hair with craft scissors.

Remember my cousin using nail clippers on his bangs. Looked like a lawnmower got to it. What's the worst DIY haircut you've seen?

Ever try to fix a bad bang trim? I used a small pair of eyebrow scissors and cut tiny bits at a time, holding the hair straight out. It took forever but looked way better than trying to even it out in one go.

Box dye on a client is a bad move, but can't a good stylist fix a patchy result?
