Appreciation post: My old curling iron versus the new one from Sally's

I used a basic $20 curling iron from the drugstore for ages, but last month I bought the $85 one from Sally's with the adjustable heat settings and ceramic barrel. The curls from the new one held for a full day on my client with fine hair, while the old ones fell flat in two hours. Is the price jump for a better tool always worth it, or can you get similar results with technique?

Eighty-five dollars for a curling iron" is a wild sentence to read.

Remember when my friend bought that fancy flat iron last year? She spent over a hundred bucks because some influencer said it was magic. @hill.nathan, it fried her hair in two months and she went right back to the twenty dollar one from the drugstore. Makes that eighty five dollar curling iron look almost reasonable, which is a truly scary thought. Some of these prices are just out of control.

What brand was that flat iron? I got a cheap one from the store years ago and it's still going strong.
