Found out my mom's old recipe box had a note she left for herself

I was going through her recipe box last week and found a note in her handwriting that said 'remember to breathe' taped inside the lid. She passed away 10 years ago and I never knew she dealt with stress like that. Has anyone else found a hidden personal detail like that from a parent?

Oh man, I found something similar with my dad's old toolbox. He passed about 8 years ago and I was cleaning it out and found a little sticky note tucked under the tray that just said 'one job at a time'. Made me stop and think. I'd always seen him as this super calm guy who never got rattled. But I guess we all have our little coping tricks we don't show anyone. Now I keep that note in my own kitchen drawer. It helps when I'm feeling overwhelmed with dinner and homework and everything else. Maybe tape it somewhere you'll see it every day. Little reminders like that can really ground you.

That's a good question. Did your dad ever tell you what "one job at a time" actually meant to him, or did you just have to figure it out from how he lived?
