Vent: Had to choose between a steady job and moving across the country for a person

Six years back, my partner got a dream offer in Seattle, but my dental office here in Ohio was finally giving me good hours. I picked the move, and the first two years were ROUGH, working temp jobs while I got licensed. The conversation that changed me was my boss back home saying, 'Sage, a chair will always be here, but a life won't wait.' It pushed me to go. Has anyone else made a big leap for a relationship that paid off way later?

My wife took a job in Denver 8 years ago and I followed with no plan. Felt like a huge risk at the time. Took me a full year to find my footing, but now we own a home here. That boss gave you solid advice. Sometimes you just have to bet on the person, not the perfect setup.

Took me six months to find a decent gig after moving for my partner's job.

I used to believe you should never put a job second. My aunt followed her husband for his career and struggled for years, which always seemed like a warning to me. Reading your story and how it worked out long-term really shifts that view. Betting on the person can be the right call, even when the start is hard.
