The three minute chat that made me quit my job for good

I was stuck in a project manager role for six years, convinced the next promotion would fix everything. Then a client, a guy who ran a small boat repair shop, asked me over coffee why I spent all day talking about work I never actually touched. He said, 'You're just moving paper for a thing you don't even like.' It took me about a week to process that, but I handed in my notice the next month. Now I fix small engines, which is messy and pays less, but I go home tired in a good way. Has a simple question from a stranger ever flipped a switch for you like that?

What was the question?

I saw a poll last week where 70% of people admitted they stop listening halfway through a long question. It happens to me all the time, I get distracted thinking about my answer before the person is even done talking. It's a bad habit but it's super common. The brain just jumps ahead sometimes. I have to really focus on the last few words someone says to try and piece it back together.

Honestly the "piece it back together" part is so real. Tbh @violar35 asking what the question was kinda proves the point, we all miss stuff. Ngl I wonder if it's worse now with all the short videos training our brains to zone out fast.
