My brother's weird advice about talking to plants turned out to be real
He told me six months ago to try it with my sad basil plant, and I laughed in his face. I gave in after it nearly died, and started just chatting at it while I watered it, mostly just complaining about my day. The thing perked up in about two weeks and is now the biggest plant on my counter. I still feel silly doing it, but I can't argue with the results. Has anyone else had something they thought was total nonsense work for them?

Honestly @thomasb23, talking to them really does make a difference.

Biggest plant on my counter" might just mean you're finally watering it right.

Wait hold on @the_elliot, are you saying you weren't watering your plants right before? That's the real shocker here. I just assumed everyone knew the basics, but maybe I've killed more plants than I thought. This feels like a personal attack on my own sad, crispy fern in the corner. You've got me second-guessing my whole life now.

Honestly the whole "water your plants" advice gets way too much credit sometimes. My grandma had this spider plant that she basically ignored for years and it was huge (like, it took over a whole window). Overwatering is a way faster plant killer in my book. That crispy fern might actually be getting too much love, not too little. Plants are just weird like that.
