The $40 trail cam I put up after the break-in caught something wild

I live near the edge of town where people dump stuff and occasionally prowl around. After my shed got hit twice last spring, I dropped $40 on a cheap trail cam and strapped it to a tree facing the backyard. It caught a guy in a hoodie casing my property at 3 AM, but then it also caught the SAME guy coming back three nights later with a shovel. The weird part is he buried something near the fence and never came back for it. I dug it up and found a locked metal box, no ID or anything. I called the non-emergency line and they took it, but never told me what was inside. Has anyone else had a cheap camera reveal something that raised more questions than it answered?
