Warning: I switched to a magnesium float on a 40x20 slab in Boise and it nearly cost me the whole pour
Never had a burn like that before with my old wood float, so now I'm wondering if anyone else has run into magnesium eating up their cream that fast or if I just got sloppy on a hot day.
Man, magnesium can absolutely wreck your cream if the conditions are wrong. That surface pulls water out of the mix way faster than wood does, so on a hot Boise day you were basically fighting a losing battle from the start. I've seen guys lose their finish in under ten minutes because the mag float kept sucking moisture while they were still working the edge. Wood gives you that little bit of slack, mag does not. You probably weren't sloppy, you just brought a knife to a gun fight with that heat.
