Drove 3 hours to a job and realized I forgot my bull float

Show up at a driveway pour in Bakersfield at 6am, unload the truck, and no bull float. Had to use a 2x4 wrapped in plastic for the first pass before a guy from the supply house brought a spare. Has anyone else made a drive-of-shame back to the shop for a forgotten tool?

Gotta admit, I used to think checklists were for rookies but this changed my mind completely.

Yeah, I had a buddy who thought the same way. He was a pilot, actually, and he used to laugh at the pre-flight checklist like it was beneath him. Then one day he skipped a step and ended up with a warning light on the dash halfway to Denver. Nothing serious, but it scared him enough that he never skipped one again. @oliverhernandez said it right, they look simple but they catch the stupid stuff you'd normally miss. Funny how the pros use them the most.

Did I ever tell you about the time I skipped the stir step on my boxed mac and cheese?
