Shoutout to my cousin for showing me why pre-built PCs can be a headache
My cousin bought a cheap pre-built computer that kept overheating during games. I took it apart and found the cooling was basically just for show, with paste all over the place. Now I always warn friends to check reviews before they buy anything off the shelf. How do you guys deal with family asking for fixes on stuff they bought without looking into it? It feels like a common trap.

That "common trap" line is so true, right? It's like family duty means we have to fix their rushed buys. I guess we just sigh and open up the case again.

Well, it's not always duty. Sometimes you're just the only one who knows which end of the screwdriver to hold.

Ugh, I totally get being annoyed, but I see it the complete opposite way! Like @brian741 said, being the go-to person means they trust you to know your stuff. I actually love when family asks for help, even on a rushed buy. It's a chance to hang out, fix a problem together, and maybe teach them what to look for next time. I helped my niece fix a laptop fan last month and now she's curious about building her own. Turning their mistake into a learning moment feels way better than just being mad about it.
