Unpopular take: those fancy Kirby Morgan band masks are overpriced junk for most jobs
Last month on a job in Port Fourchon, the new guy shows up with a $5000 Kirby Morgan 37. We're doing simple hull cleaning in 40 feet of murky harbor water. His mask fogged up constantly and the comms cut out twice. My beat up old AGA mask from 2019 worked fine the whole 6 hour shift. Why spend big money on top gear when 90% of dives are basic low-vis work?

Used to think you were crazy but after seeing a guy ruin a brand new Band Mask trying to swap out the coms module on a rocking boat I get it now. The fancy stuff breaks just as easy and costs a fortune to fix. Seems like a waste when a solid $1500 mask does the same thing underwater.

@skyler_jackson27 you are mostly right but that $1500 figure is off. A solid basic mask from a decent brand is more like $800 to $1000. The fancy hype masks that have all the electronics and fancy coatings cost more like $3000 to $5000. So the guy probably spent way too much on a mask that does the same thing as a $900 one and still broke it.
