Shoutout to the old bridge pilings in Mobile Bay
Honestly, I was just fishing off the pier near Daphne last weekend and really looked at the concrete pilings for the first time. The amount of marine growth and erosion at the waterline was way more than I expected, like a solid 8 inches of difference between the high and low tide marks. It got me thinking about inspection schedules and how often we actually check structures in brackish water versus full salt. Has anyone else worked on a bridge job there and noticed how fast the barnacles build up?

Remember seeing a piling down there with an old tire stuck on it. It was completely covered in oysters, like the tire was part of the structure. Kinda wild how stuff just gets eaten up.

Eaten up" feels like the wrong way to see it, it's more like it's becoming something new.

Reminds me of a creek near my uncle's place. The old dock ropes got all fuzzy with algae, then mussels moved in. Now they're just part of the shoreline.
