Serious question, I miss when divers knew their tables without looking.

These days, a dead battery could mean real trouble if you haven't practiced the old ways.

Modern dive computers calculate deco stops better than tables ever could.

Computers are great until the battery dies.

During a drift dive in Belize, my computer updated deco stops three times as currents shifted. I always carried tables as a backup, convinced they were the gold standard. But watching the computer adjust for my actual depth and time, not just planned numbers, changed my view. Tables can't account for that kind of change once you're in the water. Now I rely on my computer for real-time safety, even though I still bring tables just in case.

My dive buddy in Cozumel had his computer die mid-dive last year. @jesse_fox is right, that's why I always run tables in my head as a backup.
