Hit my first 1000 foot trimix dive this morning off San Diego

After 18 months of training and gearing up, I finally got a 1000 foot trimix dive under my belt. The deco schedule alone took 4 hours, and I learned real quick why you double check every gas switch at depth. Anyone else find the helium narcosis hits different than nitrogen?

Yeah helium narcosis isn't actually a thing, that's more likely oxygen toxicity at that depth.

And that helium narcosis thing is real - I swear it feels more like a weird detached clarity than the fuzzy drunk feeling you get from nitrogen, almost like watching yourself think from across the room (which is kind of trippy when you're doing critical gas switches).

Watching yourself think from across the room" is exactly the vibe, @torres.thea. I've always said helium narcosis feels more like your brain is running on a laggy wifi connection than actually being drunk. Though honestly, I'd probably trust a version of myself that's watching from across the room more than the one that's actually doing the gas switches, which is maybe a problem. I mean, who designated that version of me to be the responsible one, right?
