TIL the local comic shop near me cut its new release section by half in two years
They used to have three full racks of Wednesday books, but now it's down to one and a half after the owner said single issue sales dropped 40% since 2022. I get that people buy trades and digital, but doesn't that hurt the whole weekly community feel?

Honestly that's a real bummer to hear. Tbh that weekly trip to grab new books was a whole ritual for a lot of us. It definitely kills a big part of the local scene when that shared habit goes away. Feels like we're losing more than just paper, you know?

Losing that weekly ritual really does take something special out of the community.

Man, that hits close to home. My shop did the same thing a while back. What kept me going was the owner started a weekly book club for one of the new titles, just a half hour before closing. It wasn't the same as browsing all those racks, but it gave us a reason to still show up on Wednesdays and actually talk about a story together. That little bit of planned hangout time saved the habit for a bunch of us.
