TIL I was reading comic pages wrong for 15 years, panels first or text first?
I had this moment last month while reading an old Daredevil issue from 1981. I always read the word balloons first, then looked at the art. Then my buddy at the shop in Austin pointed out that the artist lays out the page so your eye hits the big action panel before the dialogue. He said I was basically reading a summary instead of the story. Now I force myself to scan the whole page before any text, and it's like a whole new layer of storytelling. So which is it for you, do you read the art first or the captions? Has anyone else had that flip switch moment?
