I finally gave up on collecting every single X-Men variant cover
For years I felt like I had to grab every #1 variant, especially from the Krakoa era stuff. It was costing me like $80 a month just on those extra covers. Then I saw a post from a guy in Chicago who only buys the main cover and uses the extra cash for original art, and it just clicked. Anyone else switch from being a completionist to just enjoying the story?

Was it a specific cover that made you finally stop? For me it was the third printing of X-Men #1 with the weird foil that looked cheap. I had it in my hands at the shop and just thought, why am I buying this? I don't even like it. Now I only get covers from artists I really love, and it feels like I'm actually choosing what I want instead of just checking a box. Does your shop give you a hard time about cutting down your pull list?

Wait you actually HAD that foil cover in your hands? That thing looked so bad online I can't imagine seeing it for real. My shop guy just shrugs when I cut stuff, he gets it.

Honestly, how did you even keep up with that? I used to feel the same pressure, like I wasn't a real fan if I missed a cover. Tbh, it just made my pull list a chore and my wallet hurt. Seeing that guy's post about getting actual art instead of just more paper was a huge wake up call. Ngl, letting go of that completist mindset was the best thing for actually enjoying my comics again. Now I just grab the cover I like best and the story feels way more important.
