My buddy swore by a 1:15 ratio for pour-over, and I fought him on it for a year.
Finally tried it with my V60 last week and the clarity was insane, completely changed my morning cup. Anyone else have a simple piece of advice they ignored for way too long?

Honestly the 1:15 ratio is a great starting point but it's not a magic rule for every bean. Some lighter roasts really open up with a bit more water, like a 1:16 or even 1:17. Fighting about a single number for a year is funny, but the real trick is learning to tweak things for what you're actually brewing.

Grind finer was my stubborn hill to die on.

Oh man, grind finer was your thing too? I was the exact same way for months. I kept blaming my cheap grinder and buying new beans, but the coffee just tasted sour and weak. I finally listened and went way finer, like almost espresso fine, and boom, suddenly my v60 actually had flavor. It's crazy how long you can fight the obvious fix.

Wait you fought about it for a whole year? That's some serious dedication to being wrong, no offense. I mean I get being stubborn but a year is wild. The clarity really is a game changer though, makes you wonder what else we're missing.
