Told my study group to skip the tutorial videos and read docs instead, got called crazy

Last Tuesday my buddy Marcus started his first Python project. Everyone in our meetup kept pushing him toward a 12 hour YouTube course. I said, honestly, just open the official docs and build something small. They looked at me like I suggested learning from a dictionary. Three years ago I wasted a whole month on video tutorials in Denver, pausing and rewinding every 5 minutes. Docs felt boring at first but I actually remembered what I did. My question is, has anyone else found that reading the manual beats watching someone else type? Or am I the only one who learns that way?

Video tutorials work for me. I need to see the whole flow before I try it myself. Docs just make me zone out after two pages.
