Started with a big coding book, switched to a free online course and finished my first project in a week

Finished your first project in a week" is the best way to learn, just keep building stuff.

My friend did that too, @cole_baker, built a dumb little game.

Oh man, that reminds me of my buddy Tom. He spent like three months making this little roguelike dungeon crawler thing just for fun. It was super basic, like ASCII graphics and everything, not even close to being a real game. He showed it to me once and I was like "uh, cool?" But he was so into it, kept tweaking the code every weekend. Fast forward like a year and he actually released it on some tiny indie platform, got like a hundred downloads. He was over the moon about it. I guess the point is, even a "dumb" little project can turn into something you're proud of if you just stick with it.
