My mentor swore by the rubber duck method, it backfired at work

My senior dev kept saying talk to a rubber duck before asking for help, so I did for 45 minutes in the break room and my boss walked in on me explaining a loop to a yellow duck. He laughed for 5 minutes but now my whole team calls me Duck Guy, has anyone else had this trick actually make things worse?
